I’ve been living in Seattle for almost six months now and every so often — like about 10 minutes ago — I’ll hear someone screaming on the street at night. I’ve lived in the suburbs most of my life and I’m still not entirely used to the idea of noise (especially from a person) at night.
That’s not to say that I’m particularly annoyed by it — I chose to live here after all — but every time it happens, I puzzle over whether to call the police or not. On the one hand, I don’t want to waste police resources and God knows the Seattle Police have better things to do than handle noise complaints. On the other hand, what if someone’s actually in trouble?
My other conundrum is this: Say there’s no threat and someone is just being a drunken idiot — is it better to yell at them to quiet down, or just ignore it and not possibly start a fight?
*Sigh* On nights like this, it’s Suburbs 1, City 0.
