NYT's Netflix heat map

This came today via Kathy Gill on Twitter—it’s a heat map of Netflix queues, broken down by ZIP code for a handful of major cities:

OK, so I'm not the only one renting Twilight.

It’s not exactly hard-hitting journalism, but but it is cool and potentially viral. It’s the kind of thing more news orgs should be doing to draw people onto their pages. Sure, “what’s being rented on Netflix” doesn’t really have anything to do with New York and is only a fringe news item, but there’s a percentage of people who will go, “Oh, New York Times” once they’re there and start clicking around.

I’ll also note the cross-promotional effort: New York Times, using Google Maps to track Netflix trends.
