This Tuesday, I’ll be co-hosting a meetup at Jillian’s in Seattle that will feature reporters and editors from KIRO 7, KING 5, KOMO News and The Seattle Times talking about how they made the most of their social media presences during last months snow and ice storms in Western Washington. Here’s everything you need to know:

ONA & SPJ Seattle Meetup – Seattle snowstorms
Tuesday, March 6, 2012, 7:00 PM
Jillian’s: 731 Westlake Ave N, Seattle, WA
RSVP at Meetup.com

Two things really excite me about this event: (1) We’ve got really great speakers lined up and (2) it’s a chance for us to showcase how collaborative the Seattle news crowd is. Most people don’t realize it — probably because traditionally, it was crazy to think of banding together with your competition — but there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes talk between competing news stations, newspapers and websites in Seattle.

We fight it out fiercely for TV viewers and web users (not so much print subscribers anymore) but there’s also a deep care for the public good, and we’re not shy about, for instance, getting together to decide what hashtag we should use before an election.

I highly recommend coming out to see these people speak, and I’d love to talk to you over beers, too.
