Here’s what people say about me and my work.
Paul Balcerak did an outstanding job for Copacino+Fujikado in building and advancing our social media discipline. He combined a journalist’s craftsmanship with a technologist’s understanding of digital platforms. He was also a pleasure to workâan upbeat and supportive teammate, supervisor and colleague.
I loved having Paul on the team at Curator. I actively recruited him to join our team because of his talent and then felt like we hit the lottery when we got to spend our work days with him as a person. Paul is smart, focused, driven, and creative. Equally, he’s a joy to have as a team member. If you want to elevate your social media strategy while also laughing more, you want Paul on your team.
Paul was a great team member. I valued his point of view, collaboration and partnership while working at Perch.
I worked with Paul as a lead social media strategist across a variety of clients including Seattle Goodwill, Premera Blue Cross and Amica Insurance. He developed thoughtful content calendars, engaging organic social content and provided excellent guidance and consultation to our clients on all things related to social media. But beyond that, Paul is a wonderful human and colleague, a true ally that used his position to lift others up and advocate for positive change at the agency.
I helped hire Paul and then worked with him when I managed all editorial content at KIRO 7. He was in charge of modernizing the social media at KIRO 7 and managing the brand voice of the newsroom and television station. He grew our social presence significantly and lifted the entire brand. Paul was a pleasure to work with, always bringing smart ideas to the table and making friends along the way. As with most successful newsroom personalities, Paul executes quickly and definitively, knowing that accuracy and speed both matter.
Paul is at the forefront of the media industry’s transition to digital communication. His understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead for dailies, weeklies, magazines, and regional and trade publications is exquisite.
Some people have a natural understanding how how to communicate their ideas, and Paul is one of those people. He’s a great asset to any media organization looking to embrace the future.
Here is the email I sent to everyone at KIRO-TV when Paul left:
After nearly two years at the helm of our social media efforts, Paul Balcerak is leaving KIRO 7 to take a job at a Pioneer Square PR firm.
Here are some numbers that only begin to describe what Paul has done for our social media efforts: When he started, we had fewer than 2,663 Facebook ‘likes’; as of today, we have 18,965 ‘fans’. Twitter followers stood at 7,847 when he started; today, we have 25,199. The number of referrals from social media sites has soared by about 50 percent in the past year. But Paul’s skills aren’t limited to the social media world. He has also shown an eye for finding great web stories and quickly turning them into successful online content. He’s spotted countless tips that first appeared as tweets or Facebook posts and later became KIRO 7 Eyewitness News stories. Many times, he’s helped reporters and assignment editors track down sources through social media. And through it all, Paul has approached his work with a mix of passion and humor, confidence and humility — and the highest professional standards that all of us lucky enough to work alongside of him respect every day.
Please join me in congratulating him and in hoping we all are fortunate enough to one day work with him again. -Tim
